Piotr’s TEFL Journey in Malaga

I’m Piotr, a language teacher from Poland, and this is the story of my journey earning a TEFL certification in Malaga — an experience that combined professional growth with an unforgettable lifestyle.

I began my TEFL in Malaga course online in late October, back in Poland, but I had already planned to move to Malaga to fully immerse myself in the program. Starting online allowed me to get familiar with lesson planning, classroom strategies, and the foundations of teaching English, while knowing that soon I would continue my training on-site at one of the most inspiring TEFL schools in Malaga.

A few weeks into the course, already living in Malaga, I realized it was time to make the most of the opportunity to gain practical experience. Alongside this, the journals, reflections, and assignments added depth to the process, creating an organic learning cycle that connected theory and practice seamlessly.

Living in Malaga enhanced this learning journey even further. The Mediterranean lifestyle — warm weather, fresh sea air, and a relaxed pace of life — made intensive study feel enjoyable rather than stressful. Stepping out of the school and seeing the sea, taking a short walk along the beach, or enjoying a quiet café in the city offered natural moments of reflection, helping me absorb the material and improve my skills. This environment exemplifies why studying TEFL abroad can be so transformative — the combination of a professional, structured program and a lifestyle that promotes balance and wellbeing makes learning both effective and inspiring.

The final step of the program was an online interview with a Trinity College London moderator. This was a professional and supportive experience that perfectly wrapped up months of study, observation, teaching practice, and reflection.

Looking back, earning my TEFL certification in Malaga was about far more than completing a course. It was a meaningful journey of professional, personal, and cultural growth, providing practical classroom experience, confidence as a teacher, and a deeper appreciation for the role of teaching English abroad.
